FOUNDING VIRTUES

Each year at Christ the King School there is a theme selected from Scripture and virtues are taken from that Scripture which are divided into four quarters.  CKS’s purpose is to reinforce the values set forth at home for children to model.

We Walk by Building Pillars of Character on a Foundation of Faith, Trustworthy, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship

For the 2010 – 2011 school year

Christ the King will be emphasizing:

“Building on the Rock of Church and Scripture”

Jesus often used rock (or a rock) as an allegory for a strong foundation of faith.  Our Faith is nurtured by the teachings and sacraments of the Church and by Holy Scripture.

This year, the students and faculty of Christ the King Catholic School will further develop our Pillars of Character as we learn more about the scriptural foundation of our faith.
The following scripture passages teach about his firm foundation:

Matthew 7:24-25

The Wise and Foolish Builders
24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”

Luke 6:47-49

47 “As for those who come to me and hear my words and put them into practice, I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But those who hear my words and do not put them into practice are like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."

Matthew 16:17-19

17 Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, [a] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of death [b] will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be [c] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be [d] loosed in heaven."
