Physically Present

  • When school is in session and all are physically present, instruction will take place on campus.

Hybrid

  • In the event a hybrid schedule is needed to enforce mandated guidelines, there will be an A day/B day schedule. Certain students will be on campus for instruction on their scheduled days, and the remainder of students will move to E-Learning.

E-Learning

  • In the event the school needs to close, instruction will move to E-Learning. During E-Learning, there will be livestreamed instruction through Microsoft Teams. The lessons will be recorded for asynchronous, as well as synchronous options. Updated E-Learning guidelines are published on the CKS website.

As indicated, families will have the option to choose virtual instruction when the school reopens. The commitment is for the entire first quarter. Instruction will be livestreamed, as well as recorded for asynchronous access. Virtual instruction requires students to complete independent practice as a component of the lessons.

In the event a 14-day quarantine is necessary, students will move to virtual instruction until able to return to school based on the related return to school policy and protocol.

Note: Recording/photographing any E-Learning/virtual instruction is prohibited. CKS E-Learning guidelines must be followed at all times.

Attendance

Per Texas Education Code (TEC), §25.092, students must attend 90% of a course in order to be awarded credit for the course and/or to be promoted to the next grade. This requirement remains in force during the 2020-21 school year. Whether learning on campus or at home, attendance will be required of all students.

Curriculum:

  • The Diocese of Dallas CSO approved curriculum will continue to be utilized.
  • Resources have been purchased to enhance E-Learning experiences.
  • Beginning of the year assessments will be utilized to determine students’ most up-to-date mastery level of curricular content. The assessment data will be utilized to inform instruction.
  • Schedules will reflect an increased cross-curricular focus, allowing additional instructional time to reinforce core subject areas while integrating Fine Arts, Physical Education, and Foreign Language instruction.
  • Students will not travel to change classes. Teachers will go to the student’s Homeroom classroom.
  • During phase one of reopening, students will be in cohorts by homeroom. Therefore, there will not be separate honors ELA/Math classes in grades 6-8 in the first quarter. As differentiated instruction and assessments will be emphasized, students currently in an honors class will maintain that designation for the first quarter.
  • Progress monitoring strategies are strategically scheduled in order to consistently measure each student’s progress and growth.
  • There will be no field trips during the first semester.
