SECOND GRADE GOLD
PLANS FOR Oct. 15-19
- Reading-Our next story is “Helping Out”. We will work on main idea, plurals, and dividing words into syllables, and r-controlled vowels.
- Language-We are reviewing subjects and predicates and nouns. In writing, we will work on narrative paragraphs with emphasis on 1st drafts, revising, proof reading and publishing.
- Math-We continue with place value, ones/tens, and numbers to 100, skip counting with 2’s, 3’s, 4’s and 5’s. Chapter Test will be at the end of next week. Mad Minutes of addition and subtraction above 10.
- Social Studies-We will continue with geography-maps and scales, natural resources, recycling and pollution.
- Religion-Work on the Act of Contrition in the binder.
- Spelling-No spelling test because of short week. Continue Saxon phonics practice.
- Science-Light and Energy.
- Accelerated Reader-Students are encouraged to take tests. They may do it in the classroom or at library time. After school, parents must come with them to the library, but may not help students with the tests. No grades are given for AR. .
General Information:
Homework: Homework is USUALLY assigned Monday through Thursday with an assignment in Math and Spelling. Occasionally, homework assignments will vary. Please check your child’s homework assignment book each night for that day’s homework.
In addition, each student is required to read 60 minutes per week (by Friday). The Reading Log should be filled out each time the student reads. Also, please study basic math facts each night.
Reminders to Parents:
1. Please be sure to sign your child’s conduct sheet (in the front of the red assignment book) each weekend.
2. Please initial your child's Reading Log (purple sheet in front of binder) each time your child reads (minimum of 60 minutes per week).
