Class Info

SOAR is an enrichment program serving academically talented students in grades 3-5. Recognizing that all children are uniquely endowed, Christ the King School is committed to an educational program that meets the needs of every student. SOAR - Students with Outstanding Achievement in Reading - is a program designed to meet the needs of those students with high intellectual ability and specific academic aptitude. Through a qualitatively differentiated curriculum, the students will be challenged with enrichment activities and acceleration of course content. The ultimate goal is to instill in each student a desire for excellence and to develop a student who functions independently at the level of his or her potential.

SOAR students are identified using both objective and subjective criteria. Objective data include both achievement and ability scores - 95%ile or above in both math and reading, and 95%ile on ability testing. Subjective data include a behavioral scale, which rates the students learning, motivational, creativity and leadership abilities, and also teacher recommendations.

SOAR students meet twice a week - once during math and once during reading or language arts.
