Health & Safety:

Every effort is being made to provide a safe environment.

All students, faculty, and staff will self-screen daily to ensure they are free of the COVID-19 symptoms listed below:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • If your child has any of the symptoms when screened, they are to stay home.
  • If your child has known close contact with a person who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19, they are to stay home.
  • If your child is experiencing any symptoms at school, he or she will be sent to the nurse who will call to ask parents to pick up immediately.
  • Temperature checks will be conducted daily upon arrival to campus, and any individual with a fever over 100 degrees will be excluded from any in-person activities. If the individual has a diagnosis from his/her doctor regarding the illness that is not COVID-19, they may return to work / school if at least 3 days have passed since the resolution of fever without the use of fever reducing medications. If there is not a diagnosis or the diagnosis is ambiguous, in addition to the lack of fever the following conditions must be met:
  • Improvement in respiratory symptoms (cough, shortness of breath)
  • At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.
  • If a lab confirmed case of COVID-19 is positive, school confidentiality will be maintained, but the school will notify DCHHS, teachers, staff, and families of all students that have been in close contact.
  • If diagnosed with COVID -19, the individual will remain out of school until:
  • 3 days have passed since recovery
  • Improvement of respiratory symptoms
  • At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared
  • Any student, faculty, or staff member living with someone who is experiencing COVID- 19 symptoms should self-quarantine for two weeks. If they themselves experience symptoms, they must meet the previous conditions to return to school.
  • If a physician determines that a fever is for another reason, the student may return to school with a physician’s note after 72 hrs. fever free, in staying with the existing Diocesan policy.
  • As per the Diocese of Dallas Catholic Schools Office, masks will be worn by all faculty, staff, and students while on campus inside the building. The only valid medical reasons for not wearing a face covering, within the context of COVID-19, would also mean that attending school in person with such a condition is too dangerous to allow. As such, any individual who is unwilling or unable to wear a face covering would need to move to remote learning.
  • There will be access to hand sanitizer throughout the day.
  • There will be regularly scheduled handwashing times.
  • Education on proper hygiene will be taught including:
  • Proper and frequent handwashing
  • Not touching your face particularly eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Maintaining social distancing
  • Proper wearing of masks (covering that covers nose and mouth).

Closing Procedures (Awaiting final diocesan policy.)

  • In the case of an individual testing positive for COVID-19 and it can be determined to have exposed the school to the same, the school will move people the individual has been in contact with for more than a five to ten minute period to virtual learning or working for a ten-day period. Any testing for COVID-19 should be delayed until five days after the initial exposure, and following the ten-day period, all individuals would be allowed back on campus provided that they do not display any symptoms. Individuals will not need to provide a negative test to be allowed back on campus.
  • If it is not possible to definitively know who the individual has been in contact with, the school will presume that maximum exposure has taken place and move anyone who could have come into contact with the individual to virtual learning, up to and including the entire school.
  • In all cases, the goal will be to limit disruption to the greatest extent possible while erring on the side of being overly cautious.

Uniforms

  • Students may wear a mask consistent with “free dress” policies. (See the CKS Handbook for Parents and Students, pg. 74.)
  • Students may wear sneakers with their uniform for first semester.
